Don't let a leaky toilet cause even more damage to the bathroom flooring, sub floor and any rooms below. Simple things like caulk and a wax ring can resolve most leaky toilet issues.
The first step is to determine if the leak is coming from the tank, overflowing from the bowl or from the toilet seat itself. Cracks can form on the back of the water tank that aren't easily visible. Low water pressure in flood season can cause uncommon overflows and age can simply cause the bolts to become loose through time.
When replacing the wax ring, be sure to remove all of the old wax first and wipe each surface clean. Then apply the new wax ring and set the toilet seat back in place. Don't forget to tighten the bolts all the way when you're done.
